FC Volendam have agreed the transfer of goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen to Ipswich Town for €4 million, excluding potential add-ons. The deal follows earlier rejections of lower offers and is pending a successful medical and final contract details.

What’s at stake?

Van Oevelen, a product of FC Volendam’s youth academy, will join the Championship side on a multi-year deal. The club initially rejected a €3 million offer plus €500,000 in bonuses, but Ipswich upped their bid to €4 million. The goalkeeper has also verbally agreed to the move.

The transfer makes Van Oevelen the second-most expensive sale in FC Volendam history. Only Micky van de Ven (€8.2 million to Wolfsburg in 2021) fetched more. With 28 points from 30 games, Volendam currently sit 14th in the Eredivisie, having lost three of their last four matches.

Why this transfer matters

For Ipswich Town, Van Oevelen is a key addition between the posts as they push for promotion. For FC Volendam, the €4 million windfall provides financial breathing room to rebuild or strengthen the squad.

Valencia had also shown interest but couldn’t meet Volendam’s demands. FC Twente and Erik ten Hag had explored Van Oevelen earlier but pulled out over the asking price. Jeffrey de Lange (Olympique Marseille) and Jasper Schendelaar (PEC Zwolle) remain as potential replacements.

Next steps

The final checks-medical and contract-are now underway. Once cleared, Van Oevelen is expected to join Ipswich’s pre-season camp as early as Monday. Volendam currently sit 14th in the Eredivisie with 31 goals scored and 50 conceded, a -19 goal difference.

While the club loses a key player, the transfer fee offers fresh opportunities. Their next match is an away trip to NAC Breda on December 6, 2026-a game that may require a new first-choice goalkeeper.
