FC Volendam lost yesterday evening 1-0 in Maastricht to MVV. The home side could not hurt the visitors and lost with an own goal by Erik Schouten. Schouten, from Westwoud, described the goal as an unlucky own goal: “I get it on my arm. He stumbles on the wet grass on my arm and falls into the far corner. Very unlucky.” Shortly afterwards he was taken to the side because he had cramps in both legs.

Van de Looi criticized his players: “Everything starts with running, fighting and winning duels. But if you are discouraged by that, you will not win. A hard lesson. Welcome to the KKD.” He emphasized that the team had good chances in the first 20 minutes but then “went poor.” “We started strong, but if you let it go like that and do not quickly make the 1-0, then you have to compensate with the opponent. And delivering that fight, we did not do that,” the coach said.
