FC Volendam and Rick Kruys are parting ways. The North Holland club announced this on Wednesday. Both parties have decided to do so 'in good consultation'. FC Volendam was relegated this season via the play-offs to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. In 2024, FC Volendam took over Kruys from VVV-Venlo. Under his leadership, FC Volendam promoted as champion to the Eredivisie. Kruys was rewarded with the Rinus Michels Award for best coach of the competition. However, this season went less well for FC Volendam, which finished sixteenth in the Eredivisie. In the final of the play-offs, they lost to Willem II, after which relegation was a fact. Kruys still had a contract until mid-2028, but it has been decided in mutual consultation that both parties will part ways immediately.
