FC Volendam lost the Eredivisie spot after a penalty shootout against Willem II. The Tilburgers won 4-5 after penalty kicks. The match ended 1-2 in regular time. FC Volendam had the lead from the first match undone by Siegert Baartmans, but Finn Stam scored for Willem II. The home team took the lead and created a best chance via Juninho Bacuna in the 30th minute. A 20-meter shot was narrowly saved by Thomas Didillon-Hödl. Later, Leliendal's shot was too powerful for the Willem II goalkeeper. A dry shot from the edge of the penalty area fell against the good side of the side net: 1 – 2. With Robert Mühren for Anthony Descotte, the home team continued where they had left off in the first half. It was twice threatening via Benjamin Pauwels, who, like Nick Verschuren, Bacuna, Descotte, Ould-Chikh, and Meijers, was wearing the Volendam orange for the last time. With the pressure on the Tilburgse backline, it was a matter of waiting for the counter. Mühren, whose image has been on one of the walls of the Jaap Jonk tribune since last week, seemed to be writing the fairy tale he had dreamed of. The Volendammer was sent deep by Henk Veerman, searched with his shot the far corner, but found the outside of the post. There was no lack of tension in the packed Kras Stadion, but goals were not scored in regular time. Despite the intense heat, FC Volendam also continued to look for a gap in the Brabant wall in extra time. Mühren was close; Aurelio Oehlers found the Volendammer, who in turn hit the outstretched leg of Didillon-Hödl. Oehlers himself also found with a shot the hands of the German goalkeeper. The orange legion exploded when Mühren scored a pass from Oehlers, but referee Sander van der Eijk concluded with the help of the VAR that Kuwas had committed a foul just before. A hard shot from Mühren in the goalmouth was also blocked. FC Volendam pressed on in the remaining time, but could not avoid the penalty shootout. Nordin Bukala failed as the only Volendammer to be accurate from the spot. Willem II was faultless.
