Volendam wins against TOP Oss, but loses three defenders
FC Volendam has earned the first points of the season by beating TOP Oss 3-0, but lost three defenders due to injuries and yellow cards. The start in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie against Jong PSV (3-2) was disappointing, but against TOP Oss the points were kept in their own house. Not entirely carefree was the day for the Volendammers, however: trainer Erwin van de Looi saw three defenders fall out.
In the first half, Volendam seemed not to be on the way to a result, as TOP Oss got the best chances. Richard van der Venne and Mauresmo Hinoke did not get the ball past Roy Steur, and then Volendam took the opportunity. Nordin Bukala shot with some luck: 1-0.
Not much later, the match was over for Deron Payne, who had it hard. Both Jafar Bynoe and Van de Venne got yellow for a fierce tackle on the right-back, who had to pay for the hard tackles with an injury. That was probably not directly a reason for panic, but Van de Looi will have scratched his head when he later in the first half also Mawouna Amevor and in the break Mike Kleijn had to take off.
Also with three substituted defenders, Volendam held out against TOP Oss, which in the second half was less convincing. After the break, the team from the fishing village had more grip on the match and that resulted in the 2-0 about twenty minutes before time. Henk Veerman headed the ball for substitute Alex Plat, who finished calmly. The same Plat determined the final score of 3-0 after a fine pass from Nick Doodeman.
