FC Volendam suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Almere City FC in the Eerste Divisie on Saturday evening. The only goal of the match came in the 37th minute from Enzo Cornelisse, who headed in a cross from Milan de Haan.
Manager E. Van de Looi's side dominated possession with 61 percent but failed to turn that into clear chances. Only one of Volendam's fourteen shots was on target, compared to seven from Almere City's twenty attempts. Goalkeeper H. Jurjus made six saves to keep the scoreline respectable, while his counterpart at the other end was only required to make one stop.
The loss leaves FC Volendam in 11th place in the league standings with a total of twelve points from eight matches played. In their recent form, they have now won two of their last five games. Top scorer H. Veerman, who has nine goals this season, was kept off the scoresheet on Saturday.

Van de Looi set his team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jurjus in goal. The defence featured N. Bukala, Luca Blondeau, M. Amevor and M. Kleijn. A. Plat and D. Huisman played in central midfield, with N. Doodeman, R. Niemeijer and Y. El Maftahi in attacking roles behind striker H. Veerman. Blondeau and Amevor received yellow cards. In the second half, Van de Looi introduced Precious Ugwu, Frederik Ihler and Kayden Wolff as substitutes.
The team now looks ahead to its next fixture, a home match against Vitesse.
