Police are searching for five rioters involved in serious disturbances following the match between FC Volendam and Telstar on 17 May. The game, which the home side lost 1-2, was followed by havoc around the stadium where officers were pelted with stones and multiple cars were damaged.

Images of suspects

Police have released images of five men clearly visible during the incidents. The suspects are referred to as NN1, NN7, NN8, NN10 and NN12. They are suspected of pulling street bricks from the ground, breaking them into pieces, and throwing them at police officers and dogs. "He pulls street bricks from the ground and breaks them into pieces," said a description of suspect NN7. Officers were also pelted with stones and people were assaulted.

Suspect NN1, who is approximately 1.85 metres tall, walked along a line of officers and later assaulted two supporters and a police officer. "He has light skin and is about 1.85 metres tall," police said of him. He wore a black North Face jacket with a hood, light jeans and beige sneakers. Suspect NN7, possibly a minor, threw stones, one of which hit a car. He was of normal build and wore a black hooded jacket, dark jeans and black sneakers.

Appeal for recognition

The police are urging the public to come forward if they recognise the men. This can be done at the police station in Purmerend, via the Opsporingstiplijn (0800-6070) or anonymously via Meld Misdaad Anoniem (0800-7000). The footage is part of the Bureau NH programme, a collaboration between the Public Prosecution Service and the police units of Noord-Holland and Midden-Nederland. The programme is broadcast on television and radio and is also available online.

The disturbances cast a shadow over FC Volendam's recent performances. The team currently sits eleventh in the Eerste Divisie with twelve points from eight games. Their last five matches yielded three wins and two defeats, a patchy form reflected in the standings. The police continue their search for the five suspects.
